Richard Stallman
Launched the Free Software movement in 1983 and started the development of the GNU operating system (see
www.gnu.org) in 1984. GNU is Free Software: everyone has the freedom to copy it and redistribute it, with or without changes. The GNU/Linux system, basically the GNU operating system with Linux added, is used on tens of millions of computers today. Stallman has received the ACM Grace Hopper Award, a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Pioneer Award, and the the Takeda Award for Social/Economic Betterment, as well as several honorary doctorates.
Luis Falcón
Luis Falcón was born in Las Palmas, Spain. He holds a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the California State University. He currently lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he is studying Medicine. He is the founder and CEO of Thymbra, a company with a focus on ERP and Health Informatics. Luis is a social, animal rights and Free Software activist. In 2006 he founded GNU Solidario, a nonprofit organization that delivers Education and Health to developing countries with Free Software. He is the author of
GNU Health: the free Hospital and Health Information System, award-winner of the "Best Project of Social Benefit 2011" by the Free Software Foundation. GNU Health is being used nowadays in health centers around Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Carlos M. Travieso-González
He received his M.Sc. degree in 1997 in Telecommunication Engineering at Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Spain; and Ph.D. degree in 2002 at University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC-Spain). He is an Associate Professor from 2001 in ULPGC, teaching subjects on signal processing and learning theory. His research lines are biometrics, biomedical signals, data mining, classification system, signal and image processing, and environmental intelligence. He has researched in more than 32 International and Spanish Research Projects, some of them as head researcher. He is co-author of 2 books, co-editor of 4 Proceedings Book, Guest Editor for two international journals and up to 12 book chapters. He has over 170 papers published in international journals and conferences. He has been reviewer in different international journals and conferences since 2001. He is member of IASTED Technical Committee on Image Processing from 2007 and member of IASTED Technical Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems from 2011. He will be INES 2013 General Chair, and was NoLISP 2011 General Chair, JRBP 2012 General Chair and Co-Chair on 39th Annual 2005 IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology. He was Vice-Dean from 2004 to 2010 in Higher Technical School of Telecommunication Engineers in ULPGC.
Mohamed Yasin
Director of the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH. He began his career as a lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1980. He was actively involved in producing laboratory diagnostic kits for a variety of fungal diseases such as Candidiasis, Aspergillosis, and Cryptococcosis. He was soon given a number of administrative responsibilities beginning with his appointment as Head of the Medical Microbiology and Immunology Department, UKM in 1985 and Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs in the Faculty of Medicine at UKM in 1990. He actively sought the establishment of the biomedical sciences-related programmes in Malaysia and successfully established the first Faculty of Allied Health Sciences in Malaysia. He became a full Professor and the founder Dean for FAHS in UKM in 1992 till 1995, when he was appointed to become the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Affairs) from 1995-2000 and reassigned to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students’ Affairs) post in September 2000. With the vast experience he had accrued in the top management of the university, he was subsequently appointed UKM’s Vice-Chancellor in May 2003 until August 2006. He is currently serving as Founder Director of the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH). He was a board member of Malaysian Industry Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and the National Council for Scientific Research and Development (MPKSN). He now serves as Chairman, Malaysian Qualifications Agency Board. He was conferred a Panglima Setia Mahkota (Malaysia’s second highest award) for his contributions to education development and society.

Sebastián Lucas Marró
Sebastián is an IT Specialist and ERPs consultant. He is an active member of the Argentinian Tryton Group. He actively contributes to the development of the Tryton Localization in Argentina. He currently holds the position of Director of Technology at Thymbra, where he cooperates with the GNU Health Project. He has been working and promoting the development of Free Software. He has given lectures about Tryton and Free Software in Latin America and Europe.
Nurhizam Safie
Nurhizam Safie is a Research Fellow at the United Nation University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH). His research and professional consultancy focuses on open source health and hospital information systems in developing countries, usability & Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in healthcare information systems and e-learning. Nurhizam Safie is a member of the Malaysian National Computer Confederation as well as a member of numerous international, programme committees and editorial review boards. Carlos Juan Martín Pérez
Carlos is a Computer Engineer from ETSI Informatics, University of Malaga, Spain with a Master in Management of Information Technology and Communications from the National University of Costa Rica (UNA).
He is currently the CIO/CTO of ICT at the Ministry of Health of El Salvador. Professor at the School of Computing at the National University of Costa Rica in 2009. Responsible for posgraduate information systems of the National University of Costa Rica (SEPUNA) in 2008. Aymón López Márquez
Aymon was born on November 10th. 1987 in Las Palmas, Canary Islands (Spain). He is an electronics technician and computer programmer. He is the founder of the Bubble Software Association, that aims to promote, create, recycle and offer services with Free Software to the Community. The Association is also a place to fight for social justice and that promotes helping people who, for lack of resources, cannot follow their dreams, and where anyone is welcome. He is the creator of the Brain Operating System. He describes himself as autodidact, reading lover and true advocate of love for life and nature.
Licínio Kustra Mano
Licínio holds a M.Sc. in Informatics Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and a degree in New Information Technologies from the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro (UA). In 2007 he co-founded iUZ Technologies, a information technology company developing software for healthcare sector, namely large scale information systems and interoperability networks, based on open source technology. The company has been working with the Portuguese Ministry of Health on thinking, developing and operating national wide healthcare related information systems.Since 2012, he works as the Portuguese Technical Leader in the epSOS European project, and became an active contributor to the epSOS Open Source Initiative (OpenNCP), cooperating on its specification and development.
Nicholas Wilkie
Nicholas Wilkie is a third-year medical student at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont. In addition to his medical studies, he initiated and continues to develop with Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) in Geneva a mobile-client medical record system for use by MSF in their remote clinics. Interacting with the open-source program OpenMRS, the mobile system employs hand-held smartphones for onsite data entry and retrieval while aggregating data for periodic upload to MSF’s data center in Geneva. A pilot program is currently underway in Chad in an effort to collect data on child malnutrition. Nicholas holds an MSc in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh, where his research focused on automated analysis of MRI data. He has worked as an editor for Close Concerns, a private newsletter covering developments in research and business relating to diabetes. Nicholas is a native of Northern California and hopes to return there to pursue a specialty in emergency medicine after graduating from UVM.

Jesus Gonzalez Herrera
jesus Gonzalez Herrera received a M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a B.A. Degree in Psychology at University of Malaga, Spain. His professional experience has always been related to IT, developing different roles in areas such as education, business management, software engineering and project management. He started working as a Technology, Computer Science and Math high school teacher. Simultaneously he worked as a freelance software developer and collaborated in research projects, with several published papers, in AI (Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks). Later, he learned about business management funding a small company, Netblue, with some colleagues focused in Telecommunications Engineering and Software Development services in the local area of Malaga. After this period, he moved to California where he worked for three years as a Software Engineer at Leapfrog Enterprises, a highly specialized company in San Francisco Bay Area, applying several open source tools (primarily Qt) and developed leadership skills. Following this experience he moved back to Spain, where he continued working as a consultant for Leapfrog. Afterwards he joined PTEC as a project manager. It is a company specialized in IT systems for Health Emergency Attendance Services. Primarily, he dedicated his time to ARGOS, a project which is based in open source technologies; it was deployed in several emergency services in Spain and Angola. Currently, PTEC is part of Ingenia, where he continues leading the development and deployment of ARGOS systems in Spain and Latin America.
Jordi Puiggené Valls
Jordi holds a M.Sc. in Microbiology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and a degree in Computer Engineering from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). In 2003 he co-founded a bioinformatics company developing software for large-scale treatment, analysis and interpretation of genomic and proteomic data in life sciences research. The company received a grant from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Spain. In further projects funded by the European Union and the Spanish government, Jordi trained lab professionals in renewable energies.
Since 2007, he works as a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) consultant and became an active contributor to the Bika Open Source LIMS project, cooperating on its specification and development. He now partners Bika Lab Systems in Spain. Bika is a South-African company that positions itself as complete service provider for all of the LIMS implementation cycle - requirements, analysis, design, customisation and development, project management and quality control, documentation, systems integration, administration, hosting, customer training and support - delivering innovative designs, reliable systems and quality support. Apart from a universal LIMS, the Bika project also includes specialised branches for inter-laboratory proficiency testing and health care labs.
Holger Schmuhl
Holger Schmuhl holds a diploma in computer science with specialization on clinical information management of the University of Leipzig. After working for 4,5 years as project manager, system integrator and application development manager at GE Healthcare, he worked for 2 years as research assistant at the Heidelberg University Hospital. His research activities focused on inter-institutional personal and electronic health records, system integration and Open Source. Since August 2012 he is working at the Helmholtz Zentrum München - German Research Center for Environmental Health at the laboratory for medical information systems with a similar research focus.He is a long time Open Source and Free Software advocate, founder and coordinator of Medfloss.org. He is member of the EFMI LIFOSS working group and vice-chairman of the IMIA Open Source working group.
Pedro Herranz Porcio
Pedro Herranz Porcio (Madrid, 1951) es ingeniero químico y ha desempeñado diferentes puestos de responsabilidad en varias empresas dentro de las áreas de marketing, recursos humanos, organización, investigación de mercados y presupuestos. Desde 2007 colabora en varios programas de voluntariado, cooperación internacional y empleo de Cáritas en la capital grancanaria, donde vive desde hace años.
